The Children of Willesden Lane is a memior of music, love, and survival. It is a great account of a child who was sent by her parents on the Kindertransport to be safe from the Holocaust.

The Children of Willesden Lane
Have you ever read the book The Children of Willesden Lane? It was written by the main character, Lisa Jura Golabek, daughter, Mona Golabek. This is how the story goes.
A young girl named Lisa, who lives in the Nazi infested Vienna, faces difficult challenges all through out World War Two. She goes to a piano practice. After she finishes her practice, her teacher tells her that he can no longer teach her. That night when her father doesn’t come home, Lisa and her family start to worry. Finally, when their father comes home, he tells them everything he has seen. Synagogues had been gutted, Jews had been beaten, and broken glass was everywhere. Kristallnacht had happened. That night, Lisa over hears her parents talking about who to send on the Kinder transport. The parents decide on sending Lisa instead of her younger sister, Sonia. Right before Lisa leaves to go to England on the transport, her mother makes her promise that she will never let go of her music. When Lisa arrives at the station in London, her sponsor says he can’t take her. Instead, Lisa is sent to Brighton-By-The-Sea. There she worked as a house maid. Lisa wanted to go back to London so she bought a bicycle and rode off to a station to get to London. When Lisa got there she went to the Jewish Refugee Agency. Lisa had to go to 234 Willesden Lane temporarily. The first person Lisa met was Gina. Then, Lisa met everyone else, Aaron, Gunter, Paul, and Johnny. Next, Lisa learns the rules of the hostel. One day, when Lisa thought that nobody was around she sat down and started to play the piano. Next, Mrs. Cohen, tells Lisa that her son is coming and he can help her play better and she is granted an hour a day to practice the piano. Then the war starts and the hostel gets bombed. Lisa asks a quacker, Mrs. Canfield, if she can help find a sponsor for Sonia. When the hostel gets bombed, Lisa has to live with Mrs. Canfield. Then everyone goes back to the hostel when it is repaired. Mrs. Cohen then tells Lisa that there is a piano audition for the London Royal Academy. Lisa says she will audition for it. Lisa practices all the time. One night, Lisa passes out during a bombing with Mrs. Canfield. Lisa wakes up and hears that Gina and Gunter are getting married. Then, Lisa gets a new job playing the piano for soldiers. Next, Aaron tells Lisa that he is going to become a paratrooper. Then one night at Lisa’s new job, Lisa sees Aaron. Next, the day of the audition arrives and Lisa feels she doesn’t fit in because she doesn’t have her parents with her. All throughout the whole audition Lisa felt nervous. Then one night at the table, Lisa receives a letter from the Royal Academy. Lisa was so nervous she had the matron, Mrs. Cohen, open it for her. Lisa finds out that she has been accepted into the Academy. Next, one day while Lisa was practicing with her teacher, there was a great commotion outside. The war had ended! Lisa had started to worry because she didn’t know if her parents had died or lived. Later, Lisa plays at Gina and Gunter’s weeding. That day, Aaron asked Lisa if she wanted to go to America with him, but she said no. At the Howard Hotel, she met a man who she later marries named Michel Goleabek. A few weeks later, Lisa has heard amazing news. Her sister Rosie and her brother-in-law Leo come home. Lisa then found out she had a four-year-old niece named Esther. In about a month, Lisa her grand debut. After her recital everyone came to congratulate her on how well she did. Lisa and her sisters stayed in contact everyday and Lisa went on to become a professional pianist.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to hear stories about survivors of WWII. I would also recommend this book if you like to hear about history of what happened in other countries during World War Two. This book is full of details so if you like details you should read this book.
My favorite part of the story was when the war ended and Lisa didn’t know if her parents were alive or dead. What was your favorite part of the story?
I would recommend The Children of Willesden Lane if you like history, stories of survivors, and details. When you read the story you will feel like you are actually part of the whole story that is going on in Vienna, Austria. If I were you I would, I would pick this book up and start reading it right now.

Book Review Reading

The book we have been reading for the past weeks is The Children if Willesden Lane. The Author of Willesden Lane Is Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen. The Children of Willesden Lane Is an inspiring and brave story of a girl, Lisa Jura, and her family trying to survive the night of broken glass which Is called Kristalnacht. The Night of Broken Glass is an event where a boy shot a soldier for revenge and it was taken out on the rest of the people. This all started with the Nazi invasion.
It all started when Lisa went to piano practice and was told she couldn’t be taught anymore and was given a charm necklace that had a piano on it. Then she was sent to be with her relatives and when she was there she couldn’t be taken with them because they had a baby to take care of it. So Lisa was sent to a hostel after traveling other places and she met her new best friend Gina. One day Lisa played the piano and was told she was good. Time later Ms. Cohen got her an audition to The London Royal Academy.
When she was at the audition she felt left out from the rest of the kids because she didn’t have her parents with her. When she played she thought of Vienna and her mom. Months later Ms. Cohen got a letter for Lisa saying she accepted. Later on in the book London started to get bombed and everyone was sent with someone but Lisa was sent with Mrs. Canfield. When she returned she was bombed and was blown away into the wall because she was playing the piano. Then there was a second bomb where she blacked out. When all the children moved back Lisa got a job playing for soldiers since she couldn’t sow anymore. After that Hitler died and everyone celebrated except Lisa because she was worried about her family. She went to every list she could find and there were no names for her parents in every list. In the end she went back and met with Sonia. They met Rosie and Leo and learned they got married and had a daughter named Esther. Lisa and Sonia had a niece.
Lisa had married the soldier, Michael Golabek. They had two children Mona Golabek and Renee Golabek. Lisa had three granddaughters Michele, Sarah, and Rachel, which also play the piano. Lisa’s grandson plays the violin. The whole family had an instrument to play.
I would have to recommend this book to anyone because it’s a historical book and it is fun too. I say this book is one of the most interesting and good books I have read so far. One interesting part I think that had happened was the bombing and the massive chaos and the buildings that were destroyed or damaged. If you haven’t read this book you should pick it up now.

children of Willesden lane
The book the children of Willesden lane is about a girl named Lisa Jura and her experience of the kinder transport. This book shows challenges about what really happened. The author is her daughter Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen. It starts in her home town Vienna Austria.
The night of broken glass or Kristallnacht. She must escape to her cousins in London; their names are Dora and Sid. She gets on a train to go to her cousins in London, England she must get on the train. She meets a lot of kids on the train she finds a baby. She gets to London her cousins say she can’t stay with them so she goes to the blumsberry house she stays there and gets a job. She tries to get a sponsor for Sonia to come she finds one named Mrs. Canfield. Lisa goes to another house she works there she gets to play the piano after chores so she can practice. She signs up for the royal academy.
She and a boy Aaron date she gets a letter from Mexico saying that Leo and Rosie where in Paris and they got married. She meets a soldier names Michel Golebek. He will be her husband later on. Aaron takes her to big Ben to see the sights. She tries out for the royal academy she wins. When she performs Aaron ha already gone to America and Gina and Gunter got married, so Lisa asked the soldier to come. Then when she goes in the street she hears ‘Lisa Lisa’ and she saw her sister Rosie and Leo . Rosie tells how she survived and tells her how she had a daughter.
The children of Willesden lane is an alright book it has lots of jewish and german words in it though. If you like real stories about the Kinder Transport then it’s a good book for you to read.. This book seems more like a diary and has little events. It dosnt teach you much about what happened during the holocaust but talks about Kristallnacht and the Kinder Transport.

Have you ever read the book “The Children of Willesden Lane?” The author is Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen. I kind of like the book because there were sad parts then there were happy parts in the book. That book is about WWII and how kids how to escape from Franzenbruckestrare. They had to save their kids instead of saving all them so they send them on a train to a different place where they are. They had to send one at a time. Then when they try to escape from the group in the camps they will kill the Jews. The Germans were trying to get every state.
Fourteen-year- old, Lisa Jura, had to leave her family because her mom and dad had to pick one of her kids to go to England and they will send the others later. Then they found a baby on board the train and they had to hide the baby boy. Then Lisa uncle was supposed to pick her up but then he said he is moving out of England, so they could not take her. So she had to go to 234 Willesden Lane and she had to stay with 34 kids in the hostel. Then Lisa had to get a job and she found one as a sewing place. Then the hostel got bomb by the Germans and she had to go to Mrs. Canfield. Then she was trying to get people to get her sister there and she got Mrs. Canfield. Then her sister go there but she could not go to Willesden Lane so she had to stay out far from Lisa for her to have a home. Then she was with Aaron and then she got a letter from her long lost uncle that said they have not heard of Rose and Leo. Leo was Rose husband and they said they went to Paris and they didn’t know about where they went after that. Then Aaron had to go work in the Army and then she went to a school and she wanted to go in. Then she got in as a pianist. Then her hands was hurting so bad from sewing then going to practice piano. Then the teacher said to stop working at the factory. Then Lisa got a job at the Howard Hotel. Then she seen Aaron and she thinks that he was acting different. Then the war ended. Then Aaron wanted to go to American and Lisa didn’t want to. Then Lisa and Sonia could not found her parents or her sister on the list. Then they had to go to the train station because somebody was coming off the train for them. They seen Rose and Leo get off the train and was yelling there name over and over again. Lisa almost fell over a little girl and Rose said to the little girl this is your aunt Lisa and Aunt Sonia. The little girl name is Estha. Estha is five years old. Rose and Leo didn’t hear anything of their parents either. They now Lisa finishes what she promised to her mom. Lisa was happy what she did and what she wanted to make her mom happy. Lisa married the soldier that likes her and he gave her flowers after her show of her playing the piano.
I favorite part and Lisa left Aaron and said that she didn’t want to go to American. Lisa wanted to stay in London, England. Lisa wanted to wait until her parents showed up on the list and she waited until she heard of her sister and her husband. She wanted to hear that they were alive. She never heard of her parents or seen them on the list. She was sad and that made me feel happy about her feelings and that they care for her family. Then my other favorite part was when her sister came to London, England. Rose had a little girl and a husband. Her husband name was Leo. The little girl name was Estha. The little girl was wearing Rose necklace that Lisa gave to her. That had a piano on it that was from their mother. That was my favorite part because that when they all came back together and was happy again. The other part I like was when the piano teacher, that couldn’t teach her anymore, which he gave her a necklace with a piano on it for her to remember her dream and follow her dreams and she kept her mom’s promised.
The one part I didn’t like was when Lisa saw Aaron again and he was acting different when they meet again. Then we they was hanging out together he wasn’t being his normal self and he wasn’t acting all sweet and everything. The other part I didn’t like was when her teacher said he couldn’t teach her piano lessons anymore. I wouldn’t care to teach her because I would care about her education then the war. The other part I didn’t like was when the girls couldn’t found their parents on the list and thy never did found them. I would be so upset when I couldn’t found my parents. I would be so sad about it but I would go on with my life and wish them the best and pray for them. The other part I didn’t like when Lisa’s parents had to send one daughter at a time and they couldn’t have seen her family again.

I do recommend these book because its about war word 2. I think these book is alright because it talks how she had to earn so much money to bring her sister to London. I like these book because it talks about how hard it was in the war for all of them. I LIKE THESE BOOK BECOUSE THEY TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF LISA AND SONIA.

Language Arts Children of Willesden Lane

Have you ever read the book of The Children of Willesden Lane by Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen. It talks about the Kinder transport, and the night of Kristallnatch.
In other words, this story is about a girl name Lisa she is fourteen years old. She plays the piano and lives in Vienna. But, one day something terrible happened the day of the Kristallnatch. Once her parents see how terrible this is going to be they have to send Lisa away to London because there was only space for one of the three of the children to get on the kinder transport. Lisa’s mother decides to send her away because she knows that Lisa will be able to get threw everything with her lovely music she plays in the piano. Lisa is at the hostel in Willesden Lane. Lisa one days sees the piano and she starts playing it she doesn’t realize that her music is becoming a hope for all the other children at the hostel. She meets new friends and people. She has to work some of the money she earns she is saving to bring Sonia over to London but she has to find a sponsor. One day Miss Cohen tells Lisa if she would like to join the Royal Academy so Lisa has to wait and practice for the concert. Lisa finally find’s a sponsor for Sonia, but Sonia was going to be working out of the country. Booming went on for several times one occurred very near them Willesden Lane got destroyed Lisa had to go with Miss. Canfield and she had to live there for a while till Willesden Lane was rebuilt.
After all, Willesden Lane was rebuilt and everyone could go back. While they were eating Mrs. Cohen gave Lisa an envelope that was from the royal Academy. In the envelope it said that she was accepted. Lisa had to quit her factory work and work at a hotel. So she then changed jobs. She worked at a hotel she was there to play her piano an, entertain the soldiers with her music. Booming went on for several times one occurred very near them Willesden Lane got destroyed Lisa had to go with Miss. Canfield and she had to live there for a while she returned. Lisa had to quit her factory work and work at a hotel. Lisa then received a letter from Mexico saying if she knew anything about Rosie and Leo that they had gone to Paris and gotten married. There were some days where they received good news and other not. They received the news that Johnny had died. Aaron had left the Willesden Lane before Lisa started working in the hotel. She had not received a lot of news form him only the first weeks they sent each other cards very often. Lisa once saw Aaron in the hotel she worked but she did not feel that he was the same he was really serious, and more immature. One day Lisa was practicing for her very 1st concerto she was going to give. Ms. Mabel Floyd gave her the good news that they were free the war had ended. So Lisa was able to meet back with her sister Sonia. They both went together to wait at the station for Rosie, or her parents to see if they were there. Lisa and Sonia saw a very thin decent girl it was Rosie. Rosie hugged Lisa and Sonia. Then they saw Leo which was with Rosie and a little daughter Esther. Rosie told Lisa and Sonia about how she survived. Then Lisa told them that she was going to give her 1st concerto. So Rosie told everyone she saw at the streets to go to the concerto. Lisa knew it was very important for it to be full. So when day came she was very nervous she had wish for Aaron to be there but he had left to America. Thought her feelings were not the same she missed his presence. hen the concerto ended she saw the Michael he was there.
Therefore, I really do like this book. I do recommend this book because it is a very good book to learn about what they had to do to survive to get through the war. Also how difficult was for the parents to protect their children and even if they had more than one. You actually can feel sadness in reading how the kids felt because they did not receive and news about their parents, and they did not have any of their family members they were separated from them.
However, the best part I liked about this book is when she sees Aaron at the hotel where she worked after not seeing him a long time because he went to the Army. The least part I liked about this book was the night of Kristalnatch when they beat her father up and they were waiting for him for the Sabbath
Finally Aaron went to America, and got married. Mrs. Cohen died at age seventy. Lisa and Michel got married in New York and moved to Los Angeles, and were followed by Rosie and Leo. Lisa then had two daughters Mona, and Renee. Lisa was contacted with one of her long lost cousins and they wrote the truth of what had happened.

Reading Book Review

Have you ever read The Children of Willesden Lane by Mona Golabek and Lee Cohan? It is a great book about a young girl named Lisa that has to be sent away from her family and her home. She has to go to England to ensure her safety. Lisa was taken to London on the Kindertransport and on the train to get away from Hitler’s take over in Vienna.
The Children of Willesden Lane is a wonderful story about a brave girl that learns so much on her journary trying to get away from Hitler’s plan. She had to be sent away on a train to go to London. Her piano teacher couldn’t teach her anymore, because she was Jewish. Right before she had to leave the piano studio, the piano teacher gave her a necklace with a small charm on it in the shape of a piano. She had to watch her father suffer on The Night of Broken Glass. She was sent away on a train, but right as she was boarding, her mother gave her an envelope that contained a picture of her so that Lisa could remember her. Lisa’s sister, Sonia, wasn’t able to come on the Kindertranport until Lisa was able to find her a sponsor. On the train, Lisa found a little baby that she hid so that it wouldn’t be taken away. When she got off she was taken on a boat, and was sent to a platform to be picked-up by one of her cousin. She had to wait for a long time for the cousin to come pick her up. When he finally got there he came up to her and said that he couldn’t take her in, because they didn’t have any room. After the man couldn’t take her, she had to travel to the Bloomsbury house to stay. When she arrived there, she had to work there has a maid, cleaning and working. Then, one day the head lady asked her if she would become her lady’s maid. Lisa accepted the job and earned some money that she would somehow use to help get Sonia a sponsor. Lisa ran away from the house on a bicycle that she bought with the money she saved up from her job. She ran away to the train station and then went to back to Bloomsbury House. She asked if they had any available spaces for her to work and help get a sponsor for Sonia. Mr Hardesty called Mrs. Cohan at the hostel to see if she could live and work there for only a month. When Lisa got to the hostel, she met some new friends including Gina, Gunter, Aaron, Paul, and Johnny. Lisa worked in a garment factory while living there, and made clothes. When Lisa was walking around the hostel one day, she found a piano and started playing it. Everyone heard her and came around to watch her. When she was finished, Mrs. Cohan called her into her office. She asked if Lisa would like to audition for a scholarship to The Royal Academy of Music. After a while, Lisa got a letter from her parents saying that they wanted to join her. Aaron, Gunter, Gina, Paul, and Lisa formed a committee together to try to find Lisa’s relatives that might want to sponsor Sonia. While looking for a sponsor, Lisa ran into a Quaker lady that she didn’t know, but Lisa asked her if she could help her find someone to sponsor her sister, Sonia. The Quaker lady said she would be happy to help and then Bloomsbury House got word that Mrs. Canfield, the Quaker lady, said that she would sponsor Sonia. When Lisa was practicing for her audition, Mrs. Cohan’s son, Hans helped get better at playing her piano pieces. Then, a bombing reached Willesden Lane, and the hostel was a mess. Lisa had to go stay with Mrs.Canfield. Lisa felt out of sorts when she auditioned for the school, because she was the only person there with-out her parents there to cheer her on, even know Gunter came to cheer her on. She auditioned and played her piano pieces in front of the judges. A few days later, she found-out she was accepted into The Royal Academy of Music. Lisa got a job at a hotel, so that she could keep practicing the piano, because working at the garment factory was hurting her hands. After a while, the hostel found out that Paul had died on the front, during the war. Lisa met French solider there, named Micheal. When she was practicing at the Academy one day, and student came in a told Mabel Floyd, Lisa’s piano teacher, that the war was over and that they won. Lisa got to see Aaron again, but he was going to go to New York, but she didn’t want to go. Lisa also helped Gina and Gunter with their wedding. After Aaron had left, Lisa got to see Sonia again after the war. Lisa was surprised how much she had grown. Lisa also got to see Rosie and Leo again, and found out they had a 4-year old daughter, named Esther. Esther was wearing the piano necklace that Lisa’s piano teacher gave to her.
I liked the book The Children of Willesden Lane, because it was very happy at times, and then it told all about Lisa’s trouble and the Holocaust. This book tells about the struggles of everyday life for Lisa, and how she had to leave her family and everyth

The Children of Willesden Lane Book Review.

Recently I just read The Children of Willesden Lane, by Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen. This book was kind of sad and interesting at the same time. Lisa had to get on the train without knowing she will never see her mother ever again. Then had to go on her own, and try to get a job.
This book was about how a girl (Lisa) had to stop seeing her piano teacher because he wasn’t allowed to teach Jewish people. Lisa’s mother found out and eventually the war started to begin, it was getting worse and worse by each day. Nobody in her family was allowed to go out in public because they were Jewish. Lisa’s father chose to go out in public anyway. Lisa’s mother sent Lisa on a train called ‘Kinder transport’, to get away from Nazis. Lisa got a necklace that had a piano on it because she loved playing the piano so much. She also met a nice boy named Michael. Lisa went through a whole bunch of stuff just to get to Willesden Lane. She promised to only stay a month, but Mrs. Cohen liked Lisa a lot and she let Lisa stay there a while more. Lisa saw a piano up in the room and started to play. Eventually everybody found out that Lisa could play the piano very well. Lisa finally got to auditions, and she finally got in the school so she could play the piano there to practice and soon move on to a better place. She moved into a hotel so she could play the piano for a lot of famous people. Lisa had Sonia have a sponsor, Mrs. Canfield. Lisa passed out during a bombing. Later woke up in a bed, one of her friends from Willesden Lane, Gina married Günter. Lisa found out her mother and father had probably died during the war. Lisa met up with Sonia and found out that Rosie and Leo had a kid in Paris during war. Esther (Lisa’s niece), had her piano necklace on her neck.
I liked this book a lot because it was about the Holocaust and how a girl named Lisa had to try and survive on her own in this terrible war between Germans and the whole world basically. Lisa had to go through a lot of terrible problems during these times.
My least favorite parts were when Lisa kept passing out and when the war started because I just don’t really like wars. I don’t like fighting and Lisa kept passing out was crazy. It was kind of confused.
Finally this book was sad, mean sort of, kind, and very important to our everyday lives. I would recommend reading The Children of Willesden Lane because it was a very important book to learn and hear about. This book is one of the best books I have ever read.

Have you ever read The Children of Willesden Lane written by Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen? Lisa Jura had to leave her family to go to London. This is a true story about Lisa Jura who was in Vienna but went on a train to England to escape the Nazis. And this was called the kinder transport
The professor gave her the piano charm. This was called the kinder transport and a lot of kids went on the train to escape the Nazis, too. The reason why she left and the others because of kristallnacht. She ran away from the place when she got there on a bike and went to Bloomsbury House. She started to play the piano there because her mom said hold on to your music and it will be your friend. She met Johnny/King Kong and he was the oldest there. Gina gave her a tour of the place. Gina also tried to give her a job at the factory and Lisa got it. Later on Lisa met Aaron and fell in love him. She auditioned for the Royal Academy of Music. She got the scholarship and had to quit her job because she was over using her fingers. The war was now ended. Rosie, Leo, Sonia, Lisa, and Ester went to go eat out and discuss mom and dad. She saw the solider she met at a hotel and she later on married him and had a baby.
I would recommend this book because it is exciting, sad, and romantic. She saw Michel, the French soldier and married him. One of my least favorite parts was when Aaron left to go to America. One of my favorite parts was when Gina and Gunter got married and when Lisa stayed when there was a warning for the bombing.

Like I said this book is a real story and is very interesting. I would recommend this book. Read The children of Willesden Lane. My favorite part was when Gina and Gunter got married and when Lisa stayed there when they were being bombed. My least favorite part was when Aaron left because he left Lisa there.

Nice book review but you need to have more things in your summary. Then tell what she did on the train and how she had to go and who made her go. What about her uncle and how she could not stay with her.

It is a very good book review but you should use better grammar and words. "One day she went were these guys who shows Lisa how to play the piano he said that he couldn’t show here no more piano listens" It hould of been lessons. Also to write out words and not use slang.
